Today at the Detroit auto show, BMW announced prices for its high-performance M3 and convertible 1 Series.
Arriving in dealerships in March, the 414-horsepower V8 M3 has a US price tag of $54,575 for the sedan and $57,275 for the coupe.
This makes the M3 a relative bargain compared to its German sedan rivals — Audi's 420-horse RS 4 is over $10,000 more expensive ($66,910) and Mercedes-Benz's 451-horse C63 AMG is an estimated $8,425 more expensive ($63,000 estimated).
Also due out in March, the 128i convertible has a price of $33,875 with the more powerful 135i going for $39,875.
Extra cost of the open-air fun of the 1 cabrio, over the fixed-roof 1 coupe, is $4,500 and $4,200, respectively.
Compared to the similarly equipped 3 Series convertibles, the 128i is $10,100 cheaper
than the 328i and the 135i is $10,000 cheaper than the 335i. The massive differences here can be attributed to the 3's sophisticated folding metal roof, whereas the 1 has a simpler, less expensive cloth top.
