For those who enjoy sun on their faces and the wind rushing through their hair — wind up to about 155 MPH, equal to a category-five hurricane — BMW has released photos and info on the high-performance M3 convertible.
This cabrio is the ultimate boulevard cruiser, combining look-at-me open-air fun with dashing good looks and supreme performance.
Like its sedan and coupe counterparts, the M3 convertible boasts a high-revving 414-horsepower V8, taut and balanced chassis, racing-inspired body work and 18-inch wheels in the M division's trademark multi-spoke design.
The folding hard-top roof was widely expected to be made of lightweight carbon fiber — like the fixed roof of the M3 coupe — however, it appears BMW chose to keep costs and complexity down and went with metal, like the regular 3 Series convertible. Just as well, the body-color metal roof probably better suits the convertible's style.
The roof and mechanism add around 400 pounds to the M3.
Other distinguishing M features include large front air ducts, an aluminum hood with power dome and vents, chrome fender gills, venturi tunnel and quad tailpipes.
