They are part of BMW's Pioneer Program, which puts an eco-friendly Hydrogen 7 in the hands of industry leaders and prominent figures for their daily use and evaluation. The Hydrogen 7 is a fully developed production model but is not available to the general public. Running in hydrogen mode, the flagship sedan emits nothing but water vapor. BMW believes hydrogen will replace petroleum as the long-term alternative to fossil fuel, and hopes the Hydrogen 7 will play a pioneering role in driving forward hydrogen technologies.
