The latest generations of BMWs have often been criticized for their striking and often unconventional designs — but two awards say consumers love them.
In the Brand Image Awards doled out last week by influential auto resource Kelley Blue Book, BMW won for overall exterior design — as well as exterior design in the category of luxury sedan, coupe and hatchback.
"It is an honor to be the recipient of two Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards," said Richard Brekus, general manager of product planning and strategy for BMW in North America. "From the iconic kidney-shaped grill to the Hofmeister kink, BMW designers work hard to consistently create refreshing designs that are new yet retain the classic elements, luxury and style that consumers expect from BMW."
As for interiors, Toyota won for overall design and Lexus in the category of luxury sedan, coupe and hatchback.
In the sports car and convertible category, Porsche has the best exterior and Mercedes the best interior.
And in the luxury SUV category, Mercedes won for best exterior, Lexus for best interior.
Mercedes also got the nod as the top overall prestige brand.
The Brand Image Awards recognize automakers' outstanding achievements in creating and maintaining brand attributes that capture the attention and enthusiasm of the new-vehicle buying public.
