There are many future BMWs you are no doubt familiar with — the 1 Series coupe and convertible, X6 crossover and M3 variants — however, there are many more you may not know about.

BMW executives have made references to these exciting new vehicles in recent weeks. Here's the lowdown.

X1
BMW's newest Sports Activity Vehicle will be based on the 1 Series and likely powered by the same engines. The smaller all-wheel-drive X1 will slot in below the X3. We hope to capture the X1 in spy photos soon before official versions hit the auto-show circuit.

CS
A big brother to BMW's already-big 7 Series, the CS will boast a more dynamic and sporty profile. Think of a large coupe-like sedan (photo above). Autobahn Report reported on this vehicle, in concept form, in April ("Shanghai Surprise! Concept CS") and BMW has decided to build it. A name has not been confirmed but it may be the 8 Series.

Progressive Activity Sedan
Little is known about this new type of vehicle, expected to be a cross between a wagon and coupe with a long sloping roof. It will likely get a V designation (like how Z is for sports cars and X for Sports Activity Vehicles). The first and possibly only variant will likely be based on the 5 Series, perhaps called the V5.

The X5 will likely get a twin-
turbo diesel in late 2008.

3 Series And X5 Diesels
In January, we told you "BMW Plans Diesel For 2008" in North America. Well, 2008 is just around the corner — word is that a fuel-sipping twin-turbo diesel will find its way under the hoods of the 3 Series sedan and X5 Sports Activity Vehicle in the later half of the year.

Hybrids
BMW is actively preparing its ActiveHybrid technology for release in 2009. The X6 is a likely recipient of this powertrain, as are other BMWs. See our related story here: "Frankfurt Auto Show: X6 Hybrid."

As always, keep your mouse pointed to Autobahn Report — the BMW and Mini authority — for all the latest news and photos. We will publish spy, concept and production photos as soon as they're available.
