BMW Welt opened to the public today — three days after a lavish grand opening that included 800 specially invited guests, media and BMW executives.
BMW Welt — BMW World in English — is located at the heart of BMW's world headquarters in Munich and, with wavy architecture and a cloud-style roof, joins the automaker's other unique buildings such as its four-cylinder office tower and circular museum.
Inside, BMW Welt features informative and interactive exhibits, a car-delivery area and two-level accessories shop for customers, three restaurants, coffee bar, concert auditorium with 800 seats, business meeting rooms, plus a children's learning area called Junior Campus.
By the numbers, BMW Welt boasts seven floors with 807,000 square feet, 1,154 rooms, 18 elevators including two for vehicles, and 400 employees. BMW expects annually 850,000 visitors and 45,000 customers to take delivery of their new BMWs here.

BMW Welt has been in the works since 2001, with a parking garage from the neighboring Olympic park demolished to make way for the modern building.
BMW's first factory is also on the grounds and today produces more than 800 3 Series vehicles every day, along with more then 1,250 engines (inline-sixes, V8 gas and diesels, V10s and V12s).
Commented Norbert Reithofer, CEO of BMW, "We see the BMW Welt as an outstanding achievement in presenting the world of BMW here in Munich to visitors and guests from all four corners of the globe. In the immediate vicinity of the first BMW plant, the BMW museum and our Group headquarters we not only proudly present our passion for the automobile and its production, but also offer a deeper insight into the world of BMW, our philosophy, our past and future."
