BMW Plans Diesel For 2008
A diesel 3 Series in Europe — note the small D on the trunk lid.

BMW plans to launch fuel-sipping diesel vehicles in the United States in 2008.

The diesel engine will meet emissions standards in all 50 states including the most stringent ones in California and the northeastern states.

Diesel BMWs have been available in Europe since 1983 and are known for not only offering excellent fuel economy but also enhanced performance and driving characteristics — hallmarks of a BMW.

Today 67 percent of all BMWs sold in Europe are diesel. BMW figures the time is right for a North American introduction.

Full details on BMW's diesel foray into the USA will be announced later.
