BMW is just getting started!
The above statement best sums up the German automaker's year — with all the excitement that went on in 2007 and that will continue on throughout 2008.
Model-wise, the past 12 months saw BMW:
release a fully revamped X5 Sports Activity Vehicle,
complete the model turnover of the 3 Series with
a stylish coupe, convertible and hot M3 variants,
give a minor makeover to the 1, 5 and 6 Series,
announce a bevy of new entries that include the
1 Series coupe and convertible, radical X6
crossover, and diesels in North America,
plus have other exciting BMWs secretly
photographed while testing (X1, V5 crossover).
Of course, Autobahn Report was with BMW every step of the way — see our News section for full articles.
With BMW's current model line now thoroughly

One of BMW's highest-performing
models, the new M3 bowed in 2007.
It's the first M3 with V8 power.

Spied! The V5 crossover
|
updated, the automaker is embarking on an unprecedented new-model offensive, one so aggressive that it's creating new segments.
Witness the X6 and V5 crossovers. BMW calls the X6 the world's first Sports Activity Coupe, blending the characteristics of an SUV and a coupe. The X6 will hit the market around May 2008 with two twin-turbo engines under the hoods (an inline-six and new V8).
Still very much in development, the V5 is being labeled a progressive activity sedan. It's like a more upright 5 Series wagon with exceptional versatility for carrying six people and lots of stuff. Power and handling are sure to be exceptional, too.
Other models generating a lot of buzz heading into 2008 are the 1 Series coupe and convertible, which represent a new level of affordable BMW performance in North America. They will be released in the spring.
Not to be forgotten, the convertible M3 has yet to show its face. It is the first BMW convertible with a folding hard-top roof made of light carbon fiber.
Two other significant '07 happenings are definitely worth mentioning. BMW Welt opened in Munich in October with 807,000 square feet celebrating the brand. And the Hydrogen 7 began testing on roadways around the world, usually with VIPs in tow, showcasing what BMW believes to be the fuel of the future.
Sales numbers will be in soon and a record-breaking 2007 is expected for Bavarian Motor Works.
It's impossible to ignore that BMW's 2008 promises to also be very exciting, though 2007 may be hard to top.
From what's in the pipeline, 2009 won't be boring, either.
